Kylie Summers was an ordinary woman. Cheating ex-fiancé, job she hated, no love life to speak of… But after a drunken encounter with a stone statue, she suddenly finds herself with a gargoyle houseguest called Luc and a mission to free all gargoyles from a fate worse than death. But, just finding and waking Luc’s lost brothers and sisters is hard enough, there are those in the world who also know about the gargoyles, and wish to wake them for their own reasons. As Kylie and the gargoyle, Luc try to work together, they find that helping an entire race really won’t be that easy, but falling in love will be. But caution is advised as this is intended for mature readers only – it contains scenes of a sexual nature between an alpha male gargoyle and an accident-prone human.
I liked the general concept for this book and found it a comfortable enough read, but not one I would look forward to ever reading again. The name of the main character bothered me – ‘Kylie’. It didn’t seem to fit in with the rest of the book which a an ‘otherworldly’ feel to it. I did enjoy the suspense in parts and the gradual build up of all the characters involved. I also liked that the author spent time building the relationship between Kylie and Luc and showing it to the reader – this wasn’t something that happened over night and I do admire an author who can do that without boring the pants off someone, which I think E A Price manages well enough. I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone, but equally I wouldn’t disparage anyone from reading it either.
I adore E A Price’s Gargoyle books! This is the first one and sets the scene perfectly for further adventures. Who would have thought gargoyles could be so charming in a growl y, howling sort of a way?! They are a wonderful creation and this book is where Luc the leader comes back to life after a thousand years trapped in his stone form. Very amusing with plenty of LOL moments- best not to read in public places like your dentist’s waiting room or a crowded train as it is impossible to contain your mirth. Ophelia is a fabulous name for a huge stomping female gargoyle! I highly recommend these books- my favorite gargoyle stories. More please!!!!
