Reviews- Venomous by Penelope Fletcher

My Thoughts :_____________

Four great things about this book.

1) Mind-blowing world building.

2) Unpredictable and engaging plot.

3) Did I mention the world-building?

4) I never thought I’d write a glowing review for a book filled with alien gladiator sex.

So life can still pleasantly surprise me:-)

“She is mine to protect, mine to shelter, mine to feed and mine to cover. When she is weak, I shall be her strength. She was stolen from her world by our captors. Now her survival is my responsibility. It is her duty to endure my lust, respect my nest mates and honour our union with offspring. I revere this giver of life, as is the way.”~ Venomous One, formerly of Rök, enslaved gladiator

SYNOPSIS———————

Abducted from Earth and transported to a slave planet in an unknown galaxy, Lumen finds herself, shackled, naked and put on display before an alien horde. Told the males will battle for the right to slake their lusts with her body, she would become the slave of slaves. Venomous One, a proud warrior enslaved, has given up hope of returning to his home world and finding a life mate. When a female is tossed into the arena his soul demands he claim her. Winning his mate by Right of Might, he vows to protect Lumen and be a good provider, no matter how ugly her human appearance. Rescued by Venomous’ people, the couple face space pirates, the condemnation of an alien government, galactic war, and a deadlier threat from within the warrior’s own kindred.

CULT CLASSIC BLOODY LOVED THIS

When I want to read an alien romance it is because I want to read about something outside of my own experiences and understanding of romance, I want to read something that I have not read 100 times over, Venomous delivers this and more. Lumen had been kidnapped, experiment on and determined useless and thrown into an arena as a prize to the winner. He, Venomous One is a Ra, they are born sexless until they come into contact with their life mates at which point they mature and become male or female. Ra culture, appearance (4 armed snake men) and idea of romance are different from humans,

This is not an easy book to read at times it is harsh, but captivating, looking at another world starting from the worst. This is not a romance where the aliens are just humans with different appearances and as soon as Lumen throws a fit they bend over backwards to make their world more human, and while Lumen does break down she grows up fast and comes to realize that she is the alien and must assimilate and through this we learn a lot about Ra culture it is as if it is real.I would recommend to all alien romance fans and beg Penelope Fletcher for another book.

The world building is outstanding, it is very funny in places, but there are some difficult passages as well, This book for me will be a cult classic. One of those you want everyone to read at the same time as you don’t because it is such a good book, you don’t want anyone giving it a negative review.

There is a book 2:—

ThunderClaw (Alien Warrior Book 2) ,

This book grabbed my attention from the first page and did not let go until the last page.  Venomous was the winner of said battle. The relationship did not start of on the best of terms, but slowly built up with h/h learning about each other and learn to trust each other in a less than ideal situation.

The pace of the story was ideal given the situation that the h/h found themselves in. As the story progress, we saw how Lumen grew from being fearful to being a stronger person after all that she had been through. Each time she was introduced to a new mate, she had to work through the cultural differences in order to reconcile what is expected of her on her new home world. It was not only Lumen who had to examine and changed her previously held views, Venomous had to change as well in order to accept his decidedly alien mate.

Overall, this was more than a sweet romance between strangers but more of a couple who met in the most unfortunate of situation and was there for each other. They were the light in a very dark situation for each other. Venomous who had almost given up all thoughts of ever seeing his home planet again and Lumen who was almost at the end of her sanity. There was laughter, tears and love and the odd space pirates.

I can  not praise this book enough, Outstanding, just from the cover alone, I love it when  A SCIENCE FICTION BOOK ACTUALLY IS SCIENCE FICTION.
