A gripping & unmissable debut thriller Two women will never meet, but their lives are about to collide.
Lucie married young. Her husband has become abusive, controlling and violent. Having lost everything as a result of the marriage, Lucie decides it is time to walk away.
As she leaves the house on the morning of September 11th, heading to a job interview at the World Trade Centre and the promise of a new life, the unthinkable happens.
On a street in New York, choking on the dust, Lucie stumbles upon an opportunity to start again.
She thought the grass would be greener but starting again is never that simple. And sometimes, what lies ahead is even more deadly.
This book has been mentioned to me on numerous occasions by friends and it has attracted considerable attention since its launch, So I finally succumb to read it and find out if all the praise was indeed warranted. I am delighted to find that it was.Disappointed in my self for waiting so long to read it. Set against the backdrop of 9/11, Till The Dust Settles brilliantly evokes the terror and insecurity of the days that immediately followed the outrage, the sense that our world has changed irrevocably and the rules which have governed our lives no longer applied.
It provided a cold, calculating villain, the sort we expect to come up against in our crime novels, but more significantly, another, more immediate and knowable villain, a man who has drifted into violence and abuse.
Pat Young offers no apologies or justification, but provides enough of a sense of a journey to make that character come alive.
We have a heroine who is both resourceful and afraid, whose instinct to take shelter and hide comes into stark conflict with the moral and practical obligations she faces. And best of all, for me, was the sense of being trapped; in a relationship, a dust cloud, someone else’s apartment, someone else’s life, a broken and useless body. This was a great read: I found myself torn between lingering over the prose and the emotional states of mind, and tearing on, anxious to know what would happen next.
Lucie, young ,downtrodden ,mistreated and abused by her husband Curtis snaps one day when all she wants is a chance at life , wanting to go for a job interview at the twin towers, when Curtis pushes her too far she smacks him with a skillet…leaving him lying on the floor.
This day though is about to change Lucie’s life forever..This day is 9\11 as the planes crash into the towers ,pandemonium breaks out …and as the dust settles Lucy in trying to help a woman already dead is about to enter into a world of murder ,fraud ,and meet someone so twisted ,dark and sinister…As Lucie tries to find her mother who she was supposed to meet that day…Someone is looking for Lucie….from here there are twists ,confessions and revelations ….should Lucie have gotten on that plane to Scotland…. Prepare for an ending that will make you want to scream out loud …A chilling twisty tale.
